Da Vinci bunk

Ok, so I'm sitting around on a Sunday evening watching my cable TV like the bum I am. Unfortunately, three of my favorite channels have chosen to pander to the mindless masses and feature Da Vinci Code-related programs. This inspires me to write to briefly touch on this subject and its inherent stupidity.

Mainly, I'm going to point to the major flaws of this "conspiracy" that is pointed out in Dan Brown's book, first and foremost being that the book is fiction! Believing in the plot of The Da Vinci Code is as dumb as believing that Jurassic Park could actually happen. But for the sake of discourse, I'll hit on some other points.

First, the Priory of Sion (Wikipedia link) does it exist. It was found in 1956 in France (yet another reason to hate the French). It was an attempt by a French "intellectual" to build a myth that a line of kings carrying the blood of Christ existed. It is not a group that holds some great secret that would strip the Catholic church of its authority.

Second, the idea that a blood decendent of Christ could hold authority over Christianity. First off, Christ's authority was based on Him being God in the flesh, not being of the royal bloodline. Second, Christ will always be Lord and Savior, His role is not passed down to someone new. So even if there was a bloodline of Christ, it wouldn't matter as there is no royal authority based down through heredity. Besides, placing final authority in the church in this world is foolhardy.

This furvor surrounding the Da Vinci Code porbably stems by the desire of many to pin world events on secret orders. It's an attempt by those who cannot comprehend the complexities of events in the world and would like to make up their own reality to deal with it.

There was also a program about the Spear of Destiny that supposedly pierced the side of Christ before being passed down from one great individual to another through history. Why are people fascinated with attaching the power of God to physical objects, like it can be limited to only special items and places. This is flatly incorrect. God is omnipotent and omniscient, he doesn't have to have objects of power to affect His Will upon the world.

Be a person, not just one of the "people".

Edit:
Those of you who do not trust members of esoteric organizations will not trust what I say as I am a Brother of the Order of Kappa Kappa Psi. I guess that makes me one of "them".
