Da Vinci bunk

Ok, so I'm sitting around on a Sunday evening watching my cable TV like the bum I am. Unfortunately, three of my favorite channels have chosen to pander to the mindless masses and feature Da Vinci Code-related programs. This inspires me to write to briefly touch on this subject and its inherent stupidity.

Mainly, I'm going to point to the major flaws of this "conspiracy" that is pointed out in Dan Brown's book, first and foremost being that the book is fiction! Believing in the plot of The Da Vinci Code is as dumb as believing that Jurassic Park could actually happen. But for the sake of discourse, I'll hit on some other points.

First, the Priory of Sion (Wikipedia link) does it exist. It was found in 1956 in France (yet another reason to hate the French). It was an attempt by a French "intellectual" to build a myth that a line of kings carrying the blood of Christ existed. It is not a group that holds some great secret that would strip the Catholic church of its authority.

Second, the idea that a blood decendent of Christ could hold authority over Christianity. First off, Christ's authority was based on Him being God in the flesh, not being of the royal bloodline. Second, Christ will always be Lord and Savior, His role is not passed down to someone new. So even if there was a bloodline of Christ, it wouldn't matter as there is no royal authority based down through heredity. Besides, placing final authority in the church in this world is foolhardy.

This furvor surrounding the Da Vinci Code porbably stems by the desire of many to pin world events on secret orders. It's an attempt by those who cannot comprehend the complexities of events in the world and would like to make up their own reality to deal with it.

There was also a program about the Spear of Destiny that supposedly pierced the side of Christ before being passed down from one great individual to another through history. Why are people fascinated with attaching the power of God to physical objects, like it can be limited to only special items and places. This is flatly incorrect. God is omnipotent and omniscient, he doesn't have to have objects of power to affect His Will upon the world.

Be a person, not just one of the "people".

Edit:
Those of you who do not trust members of esoteric organizations will not trust what I say as I am a Brother of the Order of Kappa Kappa Psi. I guess that makes me one of "them".

How's this for a return?

Hattip to my friend the Ninjew for pointing this out to me:

Iranian officials on Saturday denied a report published by the Canadian National Post on the previous day, claiming that a new dress-code law was passed in Iran this past week, which mandates the government to make sure that religious minorities - Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians - will have to adopt distinct color schemes to make them identifiable in public.

The National Post later cited experts saying that the idea of religious demarcation had only arisen in discussing a law defining Iranian dress code. The paper quoted an Iranian commentator who said the idea of external identification of non-Muslim minorities was only raised as a secondary motion.

Just the idea that this was even brought up as an idea is disturbing. But it is becoming clear that the "conservative" Islamist political stance is losing its place in the modern world. After all, the ideas that women are inferior and that anyone that leaves your religion for another must die are being see for the idiocy that they really are more and more these days.

The "GOP Christian" posted a comment on one of my older posts about feminism not having a place in Christianity. While I would agree that pro-abortion and pro-homosexual ideals are not in-line with what God has laid out as the Truth, the idea that women are to always be inferior to men because "God says so" is in the same train of thought as the clansmen who said slavery was right because there are instructions on how to treat slaves in the Bible. Any idiot knows that is wrong.

I recently attended the wedding of two of my good friends. In the ceremony (which was Southern Baptist, by the way), the minister sais the idea of women submitting to men quite clearly: "A wife should submit to her husband as the church should submit as the bride of Christ." Taken on surface value, some would say this means women should always submit to men, but to take the at surface value ignore the deeper implications. First and foremost, men are not God, we don't even come close. So to think that we can demand the complete submission of women is nothing short of a twisted fantasy. The husband is meant to take the lead in the couple, but the wife has a very important responsibility made implicit by man's vast imperfections, she is meant to help keep him in line.

Face it, even the most intelligent of us guys doing incredibly stupid things on a regular basis. To think that it is God's will to have women just sit by and say "I don't think this is a good idea, but you said it was so I submit to that" when a man is about to commit an incredible blunder is completely moronic. At that point it is the woman's job to grab the rolling pin, desk lap, are any other hard object that is readily available and knock him back in line. Men are not perfect (neither are women).

On a side note, I remember a protion of John Eldredge's Wild at Heart when speaks breifly about the one of the role's of women ir to seduce men, in that a woman should show a man she is a good mate (within reason of course). I'll try to look it up later and post the passages Eldredge cites.

For now, I'm out.

Rattling the big dog's cage is a bad idea

Chances are you're going to Hell. Just thought I'd let you know. ;-)

This was a comment posted just a little bit ago on my post Is this really how you intend to win believers?. Apparently, the author of GOP Christian wanted to leave me that message. Somehow, he came to this judgment of me by reading my previous entries. I'm not sure how, or even why, but he is definitely wrong. Of course, I guess I shouldn't be too hard on this individual, after all, they don't actually know me, they just came to a snap judgment about my eternal salvation based of off too little information and bad assumptions.

This same blogger has commented on another of my posts, More on hate monger Phelps, with a comment about how feminism is not Christian. Not only was the comment off-topic, the bulk of it's content was entirely a cut-&-paste of one of his own posts. I don't mind differing point of views, but I would rather have a synopsis and a link to the original post.

Maybe I am being a little harsh, but the first comment set me off. I glanced over his blog right quick, and a quote from Men in Black came to mind:
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangeous animals..."

I see so many people who are intelligent and capable of great thought and understanding but who instead choose to hide in the crowd where they feel safe and their ideals unchallenged. What a lost state of ignorance to choose when you can be capable of so much greatness.

For better or for worse, the GOP Christian felt the need to make his comments. Maybe I did need someone to rattle my cage a little to wake me up. Whatever the case, I'm back!
